100 Miles on a Recumbent Bike

100 Miles on a Recumbent Bike

It was October of 2021 and I've been enjoying 30 to 50 mile rides (48 km to 80 km). I like a good challenge so I decided to bike 100 miles (160 km). Here's the video!
The Backstory
It's not like I trained specially for this, but I've occasionally gone 50 to 60 miles. It was just time to check it off the list. Years prior I did 90 miles on the Pinellas Trail, but that wasn't quite 100. You know.
Obviously, I needed all day, so on a Saturday morning I started out before sunrise one October morning in Florida. My route was north along the Suncoast Trail until the end, then just turn around and come back. The sunrise was nice in this video and I got some nice video of it.
As the video shows, I'm taking it easy - especially in the beginning of the day. I carved out the entire day, so I took my time. I had a break at the State Road 50 trailhead facility, which has a nice pavilion, bathrooms, and water. Also had a break at the north end of the trail - which was Ponce De Leon Boulevard at the time.
North of the SR 50 trailhead, the trail has nice, small rolling hills. I love riding in that area. On the way back, I turned off the trail onto State Road 50 and found a McDonald's and a Twistee Treat. Junk food tastes so much better when you're working hard for hours.
I show the iconic tree loaded with iconic wind chimes to memorialize loved ones. I'm not sure how that started or if that's on private property, but it's pretty cool. It was a big day, but I felt pretty good when I got back. Really just felt the strain in my quadricepts. I was pumped to check that bucket list achievement off!
